Philosophy
At IL CANE DOLCE, we believe any solid training program is based on three things--- Praise/motivation, correction, and repetition.
Corrections come from the collar and leash, never hitting or yelling. We do not believe in training dogs with clickers for we understand dogs to be the pack animals they are. Clicker training is done with dolphins and horses and in our opinion, is not suited to the canine psyche. This may not seem politically correct in these days of positive reinforcement only. The dog DESERVES THE RIGHT to the consequences of his actions and in turn, this is what builds a mutually respectful and loving relationship. Perhaps in an ideal world, sans cars or distractions, a positive reinforcement only system could work.
But we need to know our dogs will respect us enough to not run into the street, eat from the ground or show aggression. We expect them not to use our house as toilets.
We could wave cookies until the cows came home or click away, but what is to stop them from fatally chasing that squirrel into traffic? It is the respect, the deference the dog shows you because you laid down the foundation of your relationship.
Corrections come from the neck and are reminiscent to the dog as the way his canine mother handled him. Correcting does not require you to be overly physical or harsh in any way. It does not even require you to raise your voice.
Every dog, if you learn how to "read" them will tell you how to correct them. What is appropriate for a twelve week old puppy would certainly not be the same as an aggressive hundred pound toughie

You will learn that corrections come from the same place in the heart that the praise and kisses do, because you want your dog to stay with you in a safe place, living well into old age with nary an accident or mishap
If a dog has this kind of strong, fair, confident handler, it only follows that he will lead a secure life full of love, understanding, safety. And since you are his Alpha, he will look to you for guidance and direction. The commands are there for you to use in real life situations and the more you practice, the more reliable the dog will become. He now gains more freedom becoming a pleasure to all and a nuisance to none, welcomed to go where ever you go, and be with the one he adores-----YOU.
First and foremost, here at IL CANE DOLCE, we are pet owners and dog lovers. This is love based on respect and a deep understanding of canine behavior. We will teach you to speak "dog," so that you too shall enjoy this bond to its fullest. We will make this fun for you in an enjoyable way making sure to have a few laughs along the way. Our philosophy is very serious, but we have fun around here and try to use humor in our teaching. We want you to have a good time!
